María José Llergo, a singer from Cordoba, is presenting her new record, a celebration of the transformative power of love and a statement of intent in search of an authentic artistic vision that transcends flamenco. Freedom and beauty of what is different are the backbone of pieces in which diversity and new sensitivities are essential factors to achieve a more just and egalitarian society.
The young artist’s anticipated album is the natural evolution of someone ready to break ground with a universal art that embraces and highlights the value of what is different. Maria Jose Llergo irrupted with force in the musical panorama with the album Sanación on which pain is the main leitmotiv. The foundations of her new work, however, are self-improvement and struggle, as the major emotional consequences that radiate a beautiful and joyful gaze. The roots of flamenco singing continue to be present in a non-negotiable musical DNA, yet are ready for the most sublime reconstruction without any fear of risk.
María José Llergo has shaken the musical panorama, leaving the palette of references in disuse and captivating critics and spectators alike. Her first work, Sanación, was premiered in the jam-packed Auditori of Barcelona, was acclaimed by specialised publications such as MondoSonoro and Rockdelux, and was presented all over Spain and in other countries, including Belgium, Portugal, Canada and the United States, with extraordinary success. Maria Jose Llergo has received different awards, including amongst others the 2022 Goya for Best Original Song for ‘Te espera el mar’.
