“We are in Ephesus, a city full of tricksters, of magicians capable of fooling anyone, of shady wizards who disrupt one’s judgement, of killer witches who deform bodies, of rogues disguised as charlatans and dissolute sinners.
Antípholus of Syracuse, and his servant Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in the city in search of their respective twin brothers. The father of the Antipholus twins also arrives at the port of Ephesus and is immediately arrested and sentenced to death because he is a foreigner without documentation. He can only save himself if he finds his sons.
Antípholus and Dromio of Ephesus (ancient city of Greece presently located in Turkey) live in the city and are mistaken for their brothers from Syracuse. Luciana and Adriana, the wives of Antipholus of Syracuse of Antipholus of Ephesus, respectively, are the first ones to mistake their husbands for their brothers. From then on errors with former debtors, jewelry in the wrong hands, and debts not paid will bedevil our main characters to the point of needing an exorcist. One mistake after another will create extreme confusion until an Abbess who is neither a nun nor a virgin appears, and the disaster turns into a party.” Andrés Lima
