Cielos, by the prestigious Lebanese-Canadian writer Wajdi Mouawad, closes the tetralogy The Blood of Promises, which also comprises Scorched, Tideline and Forests, all of which centre around the tragedy which besets humanity.
Cielos begins with a voice, captured and decoded from amongst the millions of voices that inhabit the virtual heaven of online messages. This voice, which speaks on behalf of the children devoured by all 20th century wars, accuses parents of the blood shed for generations and threatens to take revenge by means of a terrible terrorist attack with devastating consequences. But as in the myth of Casandra, this voice cannot be understood by those who have been entrusted by the State to decode it.
Wajdi Mouawad (Lebanon, 1968) is renown internationally for the vitality of his writing and the exceptional clarity of his theatrical aesthetics. His works have been performed all over the world. He has won, amongst others, the 2012 Terenci Moix Award, the Governor General´s Literary Award for Drama and the Prix de la Francophonie. In 2002 he was appointed Knight of the National Order of Arts and Letters in France.
