Marina, which was originally written as a zarzuela, had a lukewarm premiere in Madrid, it seems due to a certain literary and dramatic weakness. When it was taken on tour through the provinces, it garnered widespread renown, which has not subsided since then. In order to transform it into an opera, Arrieta commissioned Ramos Carrión to review the text once Camprodón had died. This new version became the musical hit of the season and was staged at theatres across Europe and Latin America. To this day, it conserves the splendour of its spontaneous music, which was well written with melodic elegance. Deceit, jealousy and misunderstandings are intertwined in highly significant arias, including: 'Coro de pescadores' (Fishermen's chorus), 'Pensar en él' (Think of him), 'Hasta el borde la copa llenemos' (Let's fill the glass to the brim) and 'Dichoso aquél que tiene' (Happy he who has).
