This is a proposal of theatre as a document: an approximation of the period of the transition, using as the backbone Colonel Tejero’s failed coup d’état. An essay based on the novel by Javier Cercas, Anatomía de un instante: the instant in which Adolfo Suárez remained seated the afternoon of 23rd February 1981, while the shots of the participants in the coup buzzed around him in the chamber of the Congress of Deputies and all the other deputies present except for General Gutiérrez Mellado and Santiago Carrillo– sought protection under their seats. The chronicle of that gesture and the chronicle of a coup d’état and the chronicle of years that were decisive for the birth of our democracy.
