From the first note to the last sigh, West Side Story is one of the most important and representative musicals of universal theatre. The plot is still as moving and current as the first day and the original choreographies rank at the top in the legend of contemporary dance.
The 1950s. New York becomes the stage of the musical version of the greatest love story of all times, Romeo and Juliet. Capulets and Montagues turn into two rival teenage gangs, the “American” Jets and Puerto Rican Sharks, confronted as they both seek to control the streets of New York’s West Side, a district inhabited mainly by immigrants. Their struggle to survive in an atmosphere of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most touching, heartbreaking, beautiful and relevant stories of musical theatre.
