We think we are safe in a place which we forget is not ours. When the planet changes so much and lacks resources, a polar bear reminds us that “hunger knows no boundaries. When food is scarce, even the richest person in the world is still a good piece of meat.”
Polar is a response to the natural events that have become increasingly frequent in present times. Cities and areas dominated by the human species have never been prepared to listen to the voice of the earth when it roars, whether it be as a tsunami destroying populations, or melting ice, floods, earthquakes, fires… We are never ready. (…) For some time now, in my work I have been working on plots that speak of climate change. Having a polar bear destroy a comedy is the perfect denunciation of these changes. This animal is as beautiful as it is fierce, just like in the play. Therefore, Polar is a tragic comedy of radical contrasts in which three comic stories are linked by an ecological accident. The human footprint is all over the planet. This comedy reminds us that the earth does not belong to us and that hunger does not pay attention to borders; only to the smell of meat and the prey within their boundaries.”  Rulo Pardo
