The Professor (70 years old) is an agitator and a very prestigious, leftist retired professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy: an Iberian Noam Chomsky.
He has terminal cancer, but there is a possibility of a cure. He can be treated with one of the radiotherapy machines that a well-known multimillionaire has donated to the public health system. This donation has been praised by most people. For a few, however, it is nothing more than image washing, a trick of the con man who does not pay the taxes that he should. One of the most prominent persons in denouncing this dubious charity has been the Professor. Now he must decide whether to be true to his principles and immolate himself, or swallow his pride and kiss the philanthropist's ass.
Today he has made his decision and is going to make it public. As he is preparing his speech, a stranger, a former student (60 years old) with whom he has a score to settle, bursts into his office.
El dilema del corcho deals with complex political conflicts and moral dilemmas, but what makes it a comedy rather than a political drama is its structure.
And it is political, in the most human sense of the concept, because it places the characters at the edge of the precipice.
In this battle, whoever does not lose his life loses his dignity.
