Manuel has wounded a policeman; he does not know how serious the injury is, but his uncle, who has taken him in, recommends that he should disappear, because irrespective of how serious  it is, the police will find him and he'll end up in jail. Manuel hides in an abandoned village, off the beaten track, that the two men decide to call Zarahuriel. There he miraculously survives: his sole telephone contact is with his uncle, who helps him remotely. Manuel almost feels happy with the tranquillity and freedom  he has in the village, until a family from the city, that Manuel calls the mochufas, decide to move into another abandoned house in the village to enjoy the benefits of rural life.  These new, unexpected neighbours will disrupt Manuel’s existence and soil his paradise forever.
The theatrical adaptation of Santiago Lorenzo’s novel recreates the entire adventure through the eyes of Manuel and his uncle; physically separated but together on stage as if there were in the same place. With the author’s radical, unclassifiable use of the Spanish language, which gives the story a sense of humour which is completely different from anything else we know.
