Jazz, impressionism, humor and the unknown meet in this concert’s eclectic mixture of sounds and instrumentation. From the exotic and precious sounding Ravel, also full of rhythmical prowess, to Gershwin and his conglomerate of classical and jazz. The program follows with a piece that surely puts a smile on the listeners, where the violin swings in the personification of a musical bird. When Javier López describes his music, he does so parodying an ever-categorizing listener that looks for labels such as jazz, classical, etc. And it is because we are witnessing another conglomerate, and one with an uncommon instrumentation, which brings forth interesting aspects from each instrument. “Sommersault and Perspective” for violin, vibraphone and strings.
