If jazz is something similar to a dynasty of great voices, one of its most noteworthy members is without any doubt Dianne Reeves. The rightful heiress of myths such as Sarah Vaughan and Betty Carter with a career of more than thirty albums, she will present Beautiful life (2015), for which the veteran vocalist from Detroit was awarded a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for her magnificent talent in merging elements of R&B, Latin and pop in a 21st century jazz framework. “At its core," says Reeves, "life is beautiful and I wanted to celebrate something which we overlook too often". The album includes uniquely memorable versions of Bob Marley's 'Waiting in vain', Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams', Marvin Gaye's 'I want you' and Ani Difranco's '32 flavors', as well as two new tracks, the explosive 'Cold' and 'Satiated'.
Reeves, winner of five Grammy Awards, has recorded and performed numerous times with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis, who said that "she has one of the most powerful, determined and precise voices of this or any other time." She has also recorded with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim, was the first singer to perform at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and received the Jazz Legends Award at the 2018 Monterey Festival. As one of the greatest, her mere presence is imposing.
