The European Music Gallery Festival 2020 is a project that consists of 23 concerts in 19 countries of the European Union and in the United Kingdom, at which spectators will be subject to current health standards. The concerts will be performed by 300 musicians representing these countries; 141 are members of the European Union Youth Orchestra and 151 are alumni of the orchestra. They will be directed by different guest conductors, including Pablo Heras-Casado, who will be music director of the concert in Malaga. The festival’s main objective is that all of the orchestra’s young musicians (both current members and former ones) be able to perform without having to leave their countries of origin.
The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) is the European Union’s musical flagship. Founded in 1976, it is one of the most important youth orchestras in the world. Three major musical personalities have played an important role in the orchestra’s development as music directors: Claudio Abbado, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Bernard Haitink. Since 2015 the orchestra’s Chief Conductor is Vasily Petrenko.
