Andrea Motis and Marco Mezquida are two of the most representative artists of the Spanish jazz scene of recent years. Both have a noteworthy international presence, with regular appearances in the most important festivals and venues worldwide, including Teatro Cervantes. The trumpet player and the singer performed at the theatre during the 2019 Jazz Festival and 2021 Terral, and in 2016 the pianist accompanied the legendary saxophone player Lee Konitz on stage.
Even though they both live in Barcelona, Motis and Mezquida had never coincided until they performed as a duo in 2022, at the initiative of the Barcelona Jazz Festival. The enthusiasm and emotion created between the two musicians and spectators led them to look for other venues to share the experience with different audiences. In Malaga they will present a diverse repertoire ranging from jazz standards (from Irving Berlin and George & Ira Gershwin to Richard Rodgers, to compositions by Mal Waldron and Billie Holiday and pieces of Keith Jarrett), popular Brazilian music (Lupicínio Rodrigues, Milton Nascimento, Janet de Almeida and Haroldo Barbosa), versions of The Beatles (they have revised ‘For no one’) and their own original compositions, including ‘Una llum de tardor’, signed jointly by the trumpet player and the pianist. They are known for their very natural, fluid, and sensitive performances, with a complicity difficult to find elsewhere.
