In Tigran Hamasyan’s own words, his most recent album is “ a journey to his interior oneiric world, both real and physical”. Composed and produced by the Armenian pianist who lives in France, The Call Within contains ten original pieces which together constitute the most energetic and most intense of his published work. Everything that interests the masterly Hamasyan is reflected in one way or another in the album: maps from different periods, poetry, legends, popular Christian and pre-Christian Armenian legends, astrology, geometry, ancient Armenian design, rock engravings, cinema, etc., blurring the lines between historical reality and the imaginary world. According to the pianist, “the moment of unconscious creation is the way to experience consciousness.”
Tigran Hamasyan published his first record when he was 17. He is the winner of prestigious jazz competitions, including that of Montreaux and Thelonious Monk, and has been praised by artists such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Brad Mehldau.
