Whether it’s with her own band or as the leader of the award-winning group Jazz Jamaica, the name of the charismatic Nigerian saxophonist Camilla George shines amongst the stars of the United Kingdom’s new jazz scene. Her hypnotizing and “afrofuturist” music contains a high degree of political and social engagement, and her love for fusing African and Western is founded on the basic desire to transmit to humanity messages of hope and the conviction that it is possible for all of us to live together in harmony.
Camila, who is also a great improviser and composer with extensive musical training, has won great acclaim. The Evening Standard baptised her as ‘The Golden Girl of Jazz’ and in an interview Dee Dee Bridgewater said that "the world is safe because we have Camilla".
