La del soto del parral is set in a rural farming environment in the province of Segovia, in the middle of the 19th century. It is about a misunderstanding between husband and wife German and Aurora, who are farmers, complicated by the appearance of Miguel, the son of the farm’s previous owner, and by two old chatterboxes, a good-natured healer and a gossipy poetaster.
La del soto del parral corresponds to the zarzuelas with a regionalist atmosphere of the decade of the twenties, with musical pieces imbued with a sense of verismo. It is one of the most performed and best loved works of the zarzuela repertoire.
Some of its pieces, such as the chorus of the lovers’ round 'Donde estarán nuestros mozos' and Germán’s romanza 'Ya mis horas felices' , are standard in any anthology of the great moments of zarzuela.
