At the beginning of the 20th century, zarzuela  composers abandoned works catering to popular tastes in favour of more sophisticated ones such as operettas and varieties. La cancion del olvido is a clear example of this new course. The first work by the famous librettist duo Romero-Fernandez Shaw, its simple plot is accompanied by charming musical moments, such as ‘Junto al Puente de la Peña’, ‘Mujer primorosa clavellina’, ‘Marinela, marinela’, ‘Canta el trovador’ and the amazing ‘Soldado de Nápoles’.
