With a libretto based on the same work by Murger as Puccini’s La bohème,  the author of the very well-known zarzuelas Doña Francisquita and La corte del faraón composed a score both brilliant and delightful from beginning to end. The Bohemians, for which Vives created the magic and colour of the music and romantic non-conformism of the mid-19th century, is a tribute to love and friendship and the author’s first major success. In the course of the first 25 years of existence, the zarzuela was performed 18,000 times.
