In her debut at the Verona Arena, the world’s largest open air opera theatre, Anna Netrebko leads a marvellous cast  in this production of Verdi’s masterpiece Il trovatore, conducted by Franco Zeffirelli and recorded live at the 97th edition of the Festival dell'Arena di Verona.
Together with Rigoletto and La traviata, Il trovatore forms part of what is commonly known as Verdi’s "popular trilogy". The composer’s favourite themes of destiny and desire are strung together by means of the story of star crossed lovers, Leonora (Netrebko) and Manrico (Yusif Eyvavoz), whose fate is intertwined with that of the Conde di Luna (Luca Salsi) and the gypsy Azucena (played by the legendary American mezzosoprano Dolora Zajick).
