This production represents the first stage of a project of collaboration between the Teatro alla Scala, its school of canto and Peter Stein, one of the most prestigious conductors of our times, to present the best young international singers every year at one of the world’s renowned stages. For this occasion, the director Peter Stein, a prominent figure of the theatrical panorama from Berlin, was in charge of the visual aspect, assisted by Ferdinand Wögerbauer (stage set), Anna Maria Heinreich (wardrobe) and Joachim Barth (lights). The show was traditional and neat, very faithful to the legends of the libretto. The Hungarian Adam Fisher, a sensitive and worthy interpreter of Mozart’s work was invited to conduct. With assurance and precision, and where necessary with joy and energy, he opted for a rigorous and clear rendering of the score, not foregoing, however, verve and elegance, dappled with nuances, measured dynamics and varied tempos, to accompany hand in hand the singers on stage.
