Manuela Carrasco was born into a Gypsy family, a family of artists, in what is known as Tejado del Moro in the Triana neighbourhood of Seville. Her father was the flamenco dancer José Carrasco ‘El Sordo’ and her mother Cipriana Salazar Heredia, related to Los Camborios. Manuela is a self-taught dancer who never had professional dance teachers. Her model is her family, despite her parents’ initial opposition that she become a flamenco dancer, in an attempt to protect her from the hardships of the profession.
Following her absence at the Malaga Bienal de Arte Flamenco for the last few years, she is back with Esencia flamenca, a pure, simple show, without any gimmicks to sweeten traditional flamenco. Together with her troupe, she reveals her full dimension as a dancer of breed, endowed with the emotion and authenticity of flamenco duende.
A unique occasion to delight in the art, the magic, the grace... the greatness of Manuela Carrasco.
