What would happen if a woman whose marriage is in crisis mistakenly wound up telling her most intimate secrets to a tax consultant instead of her psychiatrist because of an office mix-up? Confidencias muy íntimas presents a chance encounter between two strangers and plays on the fascination evoked in participating in someone else’s confidence.
Everyone has had intimate conversations throughout their lives. They are precious moments that we share to vent, find sympathy, or ultimately look for support when faced with loneliness. The protagonists of the play are alone, very alone, and thanks to a mistake, their lives will never be the same as they rediscover a nearly forgotten interest.
Like many of us, they have no idea what’s wrong with them until they begin to talk and listen. Talking liberates our ghosts, and the listener realises that he, too, has a few of his own. The play’s text shows the power words have to free us and move us ahead in the search for happiness. The error, the plot, and its subtlety fill this comedy with unexpected situations to show us that baring the soul is much more entertaining and healthy than hiding it.
