LOOKING FOR HILARY
By Elise Varela
Translation and adaptation Paloma López Vázquez
Starring BLANCA MARSILLACH, MIGUEL FORONDA and FRAN SARIEGO
Direction ESTEVE FERRER
> duration 1.30 h. (uninterrupted)
Elise Varela offers a highly original portrayal of the existential crisis of a woman who is by all accounts successful, yet does not feel satisfied with her life. One of the peculiarities of the play is that the thoughts of the leading character come to life and become characters themselves. Her critical conscience - an interior voice that reproaches her behaviour – takes on a real appearance and is one of the characters of the play, as her private demon that urges her to return to sanity.
Hilary, a successful lawyer in her forties, has reached a decisive point in her life. She suspects that there is a better way of living and embarks on a process of awakening to the knowledge of her self. A return to sensibleness that makes her confront her own demon and ego, Wilpuck.
Wilpuck lives in the hope of being able to control her, to tell her what is right and what is wrong, how she should behave and how she should not behave, and raises doubts regarding each and every one of her decisions. Wilpuck is a problem that only Hilary can solve.
Buscando a Hilary is a comedy full of funny situations and characters which, we are told, live inside us and drag us, lead us, manipulate us and condition us to make our “own” decisions.
