"A Spain in political and moral decadence gives rise to the myth of Don Juan. The Quixote ideal of humanity is turned on its head by this asocial and individualistic archetype: a Spanish and cosmopolitan man, disillusioned with the ideals there are to fight for, turns to fighting for his own whims. It is his own blind and sterile statement that stems from his selfishness. Don Juan is not interested in love, in women or sexuality. He just wants to prove to himself that he is capable of victory. He has a thirst for dominion, the sublimation of the self, and he is the product of a corrupt monarchy, of an idle and cosmopolitan nobility.
Don Juan, as King, is tolerated and envied by everyone because he has everything that they lack: freedom, the ability to escape, to revert to a primitive state without obligations or responsibilities. The power held by this monarchy is immoral. Leisure is their only concern and for their own survival they protect people who are like them. They pass laws to benefit the men that happily tolerate the abuses of their women committed by Don Juan.
