Spain is the country in charge of organising “International days for the sustainability of the planet”, which are attended by all the main figures of environmental politics for a debate on climate change. As well as the far-reaching subjects that are discussed in the conference, the hosts pull out all the stops and invest all of their resources in the closing dinner, where they attempt to offer an exhibition of original recipes that are related to the subject. The person in charge of the menu is a world class genius in the new climatic cuisine and his demands and costly conditions are meekly accepted by the organisers, who want to make this unique dinner into a landmark event so that Spain will be thought of as a leading nation in environmental policy.
The dinner, in the words of its writer, is a satire that reflects on the hypocrisy and the false philanthropy surrounding the alarmist messages about climate change, about how politicians “only pay lip service” and about “its treatment as a contemporary form of religion”. In summary, the environment has been turned into big business and the error is that compulsive consumerism is being constantly stimulated whilst, at the same time, a fight for a world without pollution is being feigned.
