MASSIMO QUARTA conductor and violin
Novoli, Leche, Italy, 1967. He gained international attention in 1991 when he won first prize in the prestigious International Nicolo Paganini Violin Competition in Genoa. Since then, his stunning concerto career has carried him to the most prestigious halls and theaters in the world. His revolutionary rapprochement to the virtuosity of Italian music has won him the public’s favor and praise from specialized critics (CHOC Award 2004 by Le Monde de la Musique). Besides being considered one of the most brilliant violinists of his generation, he has gradually developed his career as a conductor. Among others, he has been awarded the international Foyer Des Artistes prize and the Gino Tani International Prize for Arts and Spectacles. His most notable international compromises in the past season were concerts for the Musikverein with the Philharmonic of Vienna and in the Konzertgebouw with the Symphonic of Berlin. He has recently been named musical director of the Fondazione I.C.O. Tito Schipa in Lecce (Italy). He has recorded for Philips and for Delos. He is professor at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana (Musikhochscule) in Lugano (Switzerland). He plays Antonio Stradivari’s Conte de Fontana from 1702, conceded by the Pro Canale Foundation in Milan.
