Aladdin, Op. 34, suite, C. Nielsen
Concerto number 1 for piano and orchestra, Op. 34, A.A. Saygun
Scheherazade, Op.35, N. Rimsky-Korsakov

With a clearly Orientalist approach, this programme includes three works that are examples of music inspired in this 19th century European aesthetic movement, driven by the desire to know more about countries under the influence of Islamic culture. That is the intention behind the suite Aladdin by the Dane Carl Nielsen, based on the translation of the story by the same name written by his fellow countryman, the poet A. Oechlenschläger.

Ahmet Adnan Saygun is one of the most prominent Turkish composers of the 20th century. The breathtaking beauty of his Concerto number 1 for piano and orchestra unveil the figure of a composer with a solid technique and versatile in his eclectic art.

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is known worldwide for his symphonic suite Scheherazade. Inspired in One Thousand and One Nights, it contains all the artistic qualities of this great master of orchestral instrumentation.
