Conductor MARCO GUIDARINI
Symphony number 38 in D major, Kv.504 “Prague”, W.A. Mozart
An Alpine Symphony, Op. 64, R. Strauss
Mozart was in his period of creative maturity when he finished his Symphony in D major, “Prague”. Without ever losing any of its Viennese music character, with some Italian style influences, it is a work of great importance because it brings together great technical virtuosity, an overflowing imagination, a style respectful with his own creative voice and a clear opera-like dramatic identification. Mozart dedicated this symphony to the city that had invited him to represent The Marriage of Figaro, following a certain crisis of acceptance of the Viennese composer.
A great personality also impregnates the monumental Alpine Symphony. His last great symphonic poem, a genre in which Richard Strauss is a great master of the large orchestra, is the musical evocation of a day in the Bavarian Alps, whose landscapes the composer knew so well. The absolutely brilliant sonorous opulence makes it a unique piece within symphonic creation.
