Conductor ENRIQUE ARTURO DIEMECKE
Cello TATIANA VASSILJEVA
Cello and orchestra concerto in B minor, Op. 104, A. Dvorák
Symphony number 4 in E-flat major “Romantic”, Ed. Novak 1878/80, A. Brückner
Two great pieces from the catalogue of each of the two authors brought together in this concert, both very significant examples of the aesthetic interests that drove their musical creation. In the case of Dvorák, distinguished representative of Czech music, we find an author identified with the folk music not only of his country but of Southwest Europe in general. Moravian, Ukrainian and even Yugoslavian sounds are identifiable in his extensive works.
Brückner’s Fourth “Romantic” Symphony brought him his first satisfaction as a symphony composer. The time he took to compose it and the efforts spent finishing it were worth it. His interest in composing symphonies, the reason he became part of the history of music, arose late in life, after a long experience as an organist. This is clearly reflected in his orchestration, where his fixation with metal wind instruments is clear. His other fixation, which is also evident in the Finale of the work, is his unyielding Catholic faith in the Holy Trinity.
