Conductor EDMON COLOMER
Violin CHATERINE CHO
Eight Russian Folk songs, Op. 58, A. Lyadov
Concerto for violin and orchestra in D major, Op. 35, P.I. Tchaikovsky
Petrushka (1947 version), Op. 35, I. Stravinsky
A great master of miniatures, Anatoli Lyadov shows a rare harmonic delicacy and exquisite elegance in his Eight Russian Folk songs for orchestra, an example of his knowledge of the folklore of his native Russia.
Tchaikovsky’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra has a prominent place in the romantic concerto repertoire. The composer evokes his Russian fatherland with topics always treated with a high level of technical rigour following the criteria of German academicism. This concerto, overflowing with passion and full of vitality, represents a recess in his tragic and eventful emotional life.
Petrushka is, together with The firebird suite and The Rite of Spring, one of the most unique works written by the musical genius Igor Stravinsky. A new way of understanding and approaching folklore crystallizes in this masterpiece that breaks with the impressionist effects and the German tradition followed by the composer until then.
