Singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist of “world jazz,” Richard Bona (Minta, Cameroon, 1967) is known above all for his mastery of the bass, of which he is the rightful heir to Jaco Pastorius and one of the most preeminent prodigies globally. Bona is one of the best African musicians at fusing the sounds and musical traditions of his native Africa with European influences and the best American jazz. Together with melodies and original Cameroon cadences, another world rhythm emerges with meticulous instrumentation and capacity for individual brilliance.

His song lyrics, performed in his native language, Douala, and sometimes in French and English, narrate experiences, either personal or invented, but with a decidedly universal connotation: situations, feelings, stories of day-to-day life.

Bona solidifies his talent, his sleek harmonious sound, the strength of his African roots, his jazz and his powerful musical reflections in solo concerts or with collaborators – Mike Stern, Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, Branford Marsalis, Pat Metheny…- and in a brief but intense discography - Scenes from my life (99), Reverence (01), Munia (03), Tiki (05)–, with the addition of The ten shades of blues, we approach a global and human vision that exudes happiness, innocence, vitality and compromise.
