Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc

The official choir of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, Lyon (France) since 1993, Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc (The Little Singers of Saint Marc) was founded in 1986 by Nicolas Porte, who since then has acted as its musical director. Considered one of Europe’s best children’s choirs, it is made up of children aged 10 to 15, all of whom attend the Saint-Marc de Lyon school, and their repertoire includes Gregorian chant, secular, popular, folk and contemporary music. After achieving worldwide popularity with the film The chorus in 2004, this choral group has continued to reap extraordinary success. The soundtrack to the film sold more than two million albums, reaching platinum in Spain; it sold more than 300,000 DVDs and to date they have performed a thousand concerts in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. One of their concerts in Madrid was performed for 15,000 people.
Their studio production is also impressive – their nine albums, including works by everything from Poulenc and Britten to Haydn and popular songs, as well as three DVDs, are all proof of a remarkable musical career whose most recent offering is Los chicos del Coro de Saint-Marc (08), an exceptional work in many ways with a special meaning for the Spanish public, as it includes several songs in Spanish. “Noche de ronda”, “El tamborilero”, “Ave María” and “Faltaba un ángel”, versions of classics of the chanson française (“L’Hymne à l’amour”), Gilbert Bécaud (“L’Orange”), Georges Moustaki (“Ma liberté”), Henri Salvador (“Syracuse”), Charles Aznavour (“La bohême”) and adaptations of classics such as “Isabel” by Gabriel Fauré are just some of the songs included in this array of different styles, demonstrating the incredible quality and versatility of this French chorus.
