Diana Navarro (Málaga, 1978) has been singing copla since the age of nine. After releasing No te olvides de mí and 24 rosas, where she exhibited her vocal talent and introduced herself to the public at large, she returns with the album Camino verde, “the record I had always dreamed of”, she says, full of versions of classics of the genre she started with. “Ojos verdes”, “Campanera”, “Farruca”, “Una paloma blanca”, “Embrujá por tu querer”, “Vino amargo”, “María de la O”,… songs known by everyone but with a special, updated sound to them. A surprising treat for listeners. "They are unique lyrics, great works and we had a moral obligation to rescue them. The melody has been respected but the music is different. We have dressed the songs in new clothes ", she says, pointing out that these songs form part of the “soundtrack” to the history of Spain. Valverde, León and Quiroga –who popularised the copla at the beginning of the 20th century– are the great stars of this work.
With a loyal audience which she has earned through her work, Diana is aware that she is now in a position where she can do what she really likes. "All my records feature a lot of copla. My aim now is to broaden the field and offer it to a younger audience". Although her career has been clearly marked by this genre, she has proven that she knows how to draw from other sources such as flamenco, opera, pop or fado.Diana manages to multiply herself yet again, thanks to her immense talent and the emotional and moving truth with which she sings.
