Encarnación Amador Santiago (Alicante, 1955) was raised in a family of artists. Aged fourteen she went to Madrid, marking the start of an incredible career as a flamenco dancer in the tablaos of Torres Bermejas, Las Brujas, Los Canasteros... One day she broke out in song and she has not been allowed to return to dancing ever since (though now and then she just can’t stop herself...). At the age of seventeen, Paco de Lucía and her father, Antonio Sánchez, produced her first record, La primavera. Today she has a total of eighteen records on the market.
La Susi is well known for singing cantes festeros or festive styles of flamenco, though her voice and technique allow her to carry more solemn palos or styles with equal mastery. For some years she accompanied Camarón, Tomatito and Paco de Lucía. Because of her way of singing — full of “gypsiness”, rawness and a somewhat opaquely-veiled voice —  and because of the many years she spent next to Camarón, they called her “La Camaronera”. However, today her own merits have made her a name in her own right, needing no references to any other artists. Outside the tablaos, La Susi has excelled in the shows Andalucía en pie by Fernando Quiñones, Flamenco Fusión and La Diosa by José Tamayo and in Misa Flamenca by Paco Peña.
Now, in a new, more experienced and established phase, she divides her time between the live shows of the Diferente Tour 09 and preparing her new record, which shall be released in the coming months.
