Pablo de Málaga

Three years after Morente sueña La Alhambra, and following some of the same themes, this Flamenco singer from Granada pays homage to one of Picasso's lesser known sides, that of a writer. In Pablo de Málaga, Morente has rescued poems, texts and writings by the renowned painter and has set his memories of his native Málaga to music; the smell of stews, the heat inside his house, his childhood memories that he transforms into drops of art, into nuggets of sound that are ahead of their time. Morente searches, Morente takes risks, Morente is following the path that many have to follow to patiently and subtly construct the legend of those whose calling it is to be great.
Pablo de Málaga contains thirteen colours that make up the portrait of a great genius, thirteen flavours that bring to mind the south and a city that witnessed the growth of a painter. This city was later reconstructed for us in superimposed geometrical images. Thirteen offerings of sound, thirteen gifts left to us by an exceptional voice that makes us think of beauty itself. Although as Morente states “it would have been easier to sing from the Yellow Pages”, it was precisely the temptation of the challenge and its unorthodox nature that provoked the artistic meeting between two of the most controversial, fearless, restless and futuristic personalities that Andalusia has given to the world.
