Strauss Festival Dance Ensemble
Waltzes, polkas, arias, marches and gallops by JOHANN STRAUSS
The SFO is made up of the most highly qualified music teachers and the finest professional soloists who come together to keep alive the most traditional of Viennese artistic expressions, without forgetting the jovial and festive spirit that infuses the music composed by the Strauss family. This orchestra habitually focuses on stylistic rigor, but this does not does not prevent the widest range of expression from welling up during their concerts, from the most noble and sentimental emotions to the most jocular and humorous sentiments. For many years, the SFO has had great success in the main European auditoriums: The Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Berlin Philarmonie, the Milan Auditorium, Geneva’s Victoria Hall, the Konserthus in Oslo, the Helsinki Finlandia Hall, the Liceu Gran Teatre, the Palau de la Música and Madrid’s National Music Auditorium, among others. This year, they have played for the first time in the legendary Musikverein in Vienna.
The Grand New Year’s Concert has been given a truly original look by the Strauss Festival Dance Ensemble. By giving the program a true visual character, the ballet is attempting to revive the fundamental idea that the pieces of music were originally composed to accompany dance. This is achieved through stylised choreographies and brightly coloured costumes that have been specially created to illustrate some of the musical numbers.
