This is the second part of Lágrimas negras (03) (Black Tears), that has catapulted Diego El Cigala to fame. One of the most successful Spanish albums in recent years, Dos Lágrimas (Two Tears) follows the line of fusing flamenco with traditional Latin American music and the coplas of his ancestors. “I wanted to carry on along the same lines, always keeping in mind that I had to improve on previous efforts. I think that I have achieved this”, stated the singer. Diego El Cigala, said by some to be the successor to Camarón's still unoccupied throne, continues to create small hybrid pearls where he unleashes his flamenco flair. Bolero, chachachá, copla, tango,… Dos Lágrimas includes 11 classics – “María de la O”, “Compromiso”, “Dos gardenias”, “Bravo”, “Dos Cruces”, “El día que nací yo”…- that have been given a new life by one of the most personal voices around at the moment, accompanied by the veteran Guillermo Rubalcaba on piano. It is a an album with a universal and eclectic spirit, full of surprises and with more touches of Latin jazz, more instrumentals and almost more salsa.
For El Cigala, the key to success of this meeting of musicians is not the direct fusing of flamenco rhythms, as is habitual, but instead he fuses the echoes, the voices… with laments, turns and flamenco flair.
