Performed, praised and admired the whole world over, “Zarzuela” has been and continues to be the Spanish lyrical genre most performed in national theatres, the genre that has garnered the most success with audiences and that is best known, especially for its unrivalled romances. In a clear attempt to recuperate and showcase its most prominent works, and in a moment in which the genre is enjoying true popularity, Teatro Lírico Andaluz, the only professional Andalucian lyrical company, presents its Grand Anthology of the Zarzuela, recapturing the genre’s essence, charting its origins and evolutions via a musical meandering.
A spectacular and select journey through the best moments in Spanish lyrical theatre by way of traditional Spanish numbers such as seguidillas, coplas, pasacalles, mazurcas and romanzas. Fifteen pieces from twelve unforgettable works such as The Barber of Seville, La Verbena de la Paloma, El Gato Montes, La Parranda and El Duo de la Africana.
