The Sevillian dancer and choreographer Antonio Márquez (Sevilla, 1963) stages a show that looks back on the life and work of the famous Antonio Ruiz Soler "Antonio El Bailarín" (Seville, 1921-Madrid, 1996); a homage to the man and genius and, with it, to all the great masters of Spanish dance.
Fifteen scenes portray different passages of Antonio’s life from his childhood in Seville, to his first trip to New York, to memories of classes, rehearsals and anecdotes to end with his bitter departure from the Ballet Nacional de España. And to do so, music: flamenco palos or styles, the bolero school and references to musicals, with pieces as emblematic as “Asturias”, “La leyenda del beso”, “Zapateado de Sarasate”, “Danza del molinero”, “Amor brujo” or “Hello Dolly”.

Antonio Márquez is currently the main male figure of classical Spanish dancing, although his wide register and mastery cover both flamenco and contemporary compositions. In 1995 he left his position as the First Dancer of the Ballet Nacional de España to create his own company. Over the past years he has been awarded the Nureyev Prize (1997, Italy), Most Valued Dance Professional (1998, Spain), Best Foreign Dancer (1999, Hungary); Prize to the Best Show of the Festival de Jerez, in 2000, and the Leonid Massine Positano Award for the Art of Dance (Italy, 2005), among others.
