When he was 23 years old, Emanuel Gat (Hadera, Israel, 1969) finished his obligatory military service and started his civilian life as a dancer and choreographer. Since then, he has put his art and ingenuity at the service of tolerance and understanding. He regularly works with Palestinian dancers and he puts this firm desire into all of his creations, which he presents all over the world. This young talent has been catapulted to fame by the main centres of contemporary dance and his choreographies - sensual, daring and with a refined intelligence - have become classics in dance repertoires from the 20th century and the beginnings of the 21st century.
Two absolute highlights of the musical repertoire take on iconoclastic accents in the double contemporary dance programme that the Emanuel Gat Dance is presenting on this occasion. They are two works that are unique, daring and very personal. “Winter voyage” is a hypnotic synchronised duet based on three lieder that are taken from F. Schubert’s Winterreise cycle and their married effect with W. Müller’s poetry. In The rite of Spring (Bessie 200 Prize - New York Dance and Interpretation Awards), Gat joins with another four dancers to interpret a sensual and mysterious salsa to the precipitous and complex rhythm of I. Stravinsky's masterwork.
